Brian Rolapp has begun to put his stamp on the PGA Tour, working alongside the new Future Competition Committee to shape what comes next.

Since taking over as CEO earlier this year, Rolapp has not been shy about making adjustments to how things are run.

From the outset, he made it clear that tradition would not dictate every decision made during his leadership.

NBC reported that Rolapp described his vision for the Tour as an ‘aggressive meritocracy’, a system built around performance rather than reputation or history.

It is a theme that is already starting to show in early changes.

One of those changes is a reduction in the number of players who keep their full playing privileges. The top 100 on the FedEx Cup points list will retain status for 2026, down from 125 players previously.

The question then becomes: what options are available for those finishing outside the top 100?

The PGA Tour is shaking up its playing privileges system in 2026 for those who fall outside the top-100.

Players ranked between 101 and 110 will have more privileges than those ranked from 111 to 125, who will still be in a better spot than those outside the top-125.

But it does not stop there. There is now a new category for players who finish between 126 and 150, marking another shift from how things used to be handled.

Previously, only the top-125 players were fully exempt, while those finishing between 126 and 150 had limited status. But that has now changed, giving a clearer distinction within these rankings.

The changes mean even if a player misses out on the top-100, there is still value in finishing higher up inside the next bracket. Every spot counts.

2026 PGA Tour: start breakdown for players ranked 101-110

Rex Hoggard has given an estimate of how many starts players finishing between 101 and 110 can expect next year.

Speaking on The Golf Channel Podcast, he explained: “There is a confidence level that 101-125 number will at least get something close to what you’re used to seeing for conditional status.”

He continued: “Keep in mind that’s two separate categories starting next year. So they’re doing it a little bit different. I think it’s 101 to 111 (actually 110) is one category and then 111 to 125 is another category.

“So if you finish 101, you have a pretty good chance of playing 15-20 events and that’s certainly enough to keep your card.”

After the Fall Series, players ranked 111-125 on the FedEx Cup points list will have reduced access to full-field events, while those ranked 126-150 will receive even fewer starts.
