The Tottenham man has been linked with a return to Germany.
Former Premier League striker Brian McBride said to ESPN that it makes sense for Son Heung-Min to leave Tottenham Hotspur for Wolfsburg.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga just one year after joining Tottenham in a £22 million switch from Bayer Leverkusen.
The South Korean forward hardly set the Premier League alight during his first season, netting four times and setting up one goal in 28 league appearances.
It was an indifferent maiden year for Son in North London and Sky Germany reported via Sky Sports that Wolfsburg wanted to bring him back to Germany.
The Bundesliga side have already signed striker Mario Gomez this summer, and McBride believes that drafting in the Spurs man to compliment the big hitman makes sense.
“You can see this happening. I say that because look at Wolfsburg: they’ve sold Kroos; they’ve sold Schurrle. Those are players who are very good at running at players with the ball. Son can do that,” he told ESPN.
“He’s also a very good crosser of the ball so if you’ve just brought Mario Gomez in, you have that extra option. This makes sense for me and for Wolfsburg.”
Tottenham fans might be unhappy to see him leave. It is often a tricky first season for any foreign import in the Premier League, but half of Son’s four goals came in the final three games of Spurs’ campaign.
It may indicate he was beginning to find his feet just when the season ended and he might well continue his improvement this season, if he is allowed to do so.
