Former Premier League striker Brian McBride tells ESPN that Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Hakan Calhanoglu makes sense.
The Bayer Leverkusenplaymaker, 22, has emerged as one of Germany’s hottest properties in recent seasons and his agent confirmed Spurs’ interest via Sky Sports this week.
Of course, Tottenham already have a very gifted number 10 in the form of 20-year-old Dele Alli, while Harry Kane also filled in there for last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Calhanoglu, who has 19 goals and 17 assists in all competitions over the past two seasons, is more of a traditional playmaker than either of those, however.
And McBride believes the Turkey international is indeed a good fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Asked by ESPN if he’s a good fit for Spurs, McBride said: “It’s a great fit for Tottenham’s midfield because he’s a player who’s different to what they have.
“He’s good in tight spaces. He can find space for Kane or whoever is in need, when teams collapse on Tottenham. To me, it makes sense for Spurs.”
Tottenham are thought to be in the market for a winger but Calhanoglu’s arrival may enable Pochettino to deploy Alli out wide at times.
The young England gem made his name in the Premier League as a number 10, of course, but Spurs could have a lot more games this season as a result of their Champions League participation and versatility might be key in how they manage an increase in important fixtures.
