Nottingham Forest were soundly beaten by a better team at Elland Road last night as Leeds United won 2-0 to keep up their promotion hunt.

The victory moved the Whites up to third, while Forest are looking over their shoulders in 19th place.

Despite the loss, there was a bright debut for youngster Ben Brereton, who has been outstanding in recent weeks for the under-23s.

Brereton came off the bench late in the second half, and his performance impressed former Nottingham Forest defender Brian Laws.

It was a tough match for Brereton to make his debut in, but also a realistic introduction to the step up which is competitive Championship football.

It did not help that by time he came on, Forest were fading in the game and had let their heads drop, while Britt Assombalonga’s barren run in front of goal continued.

Nicklas Bendtner came off the bench in the second half, and Laws was critical of his anonymous performance, suggesting Forest need to look elsewhere for solutions.

There is under a week left in the transfer window for Forest to make further additions, but last night should have strengthened the case that they need to bring in new faces.
