Rangers chose to release Brian Kinnear this summer, and the goalkeeper has now landed himself a contract with West Ham United.

Kinnear saw his contract with the Gers come to an end this summer, and Steven Gerrard’s men chose not to give him a new one.

The 20-year-old never made his first-team debut for Rangers, but was around Gerrard’s Europa League squad and made the trip to face Benfica in the Europa League.

After a loan spell at Annan Athletic earlier this year, Kinnear was released and ended up joining Birmingham City on trial.

West Ham then took Kinnear on trial, and seemingly saw enough in him to give him a permanent contract at the London Stadium.

Kinnear joins the likes of Armstrong Oko-Flex and Pierre Ekwah in joining West Ham’s developmental ranks this summer, with dreams of playing in the Premier League.

Kinnear has now reacted to his move, telling West Ham’s official website that he is really happy to get the deal done having enjoyed his time on trial with the Hammers.

The Scot also talked up Rangers as a ‘big club’, and is grateful for the chance to join another ‘great club’ in West Ham as players rarely get chances to join two major sides.

“I’m really happy to be here, I’ve been on trial for a bit and I’m just happy to get it over the line and I can’t wait to get started,” said Kinnear. “The first day I came in I thought I did really well and then they asked me to come back in and then that was me, I was happy then.”

“It’s a change, obviously having to move away from home, the first time I’m having to do that. I’m coming from a big club like Rangers up in Scotland – coming down here to a great club especially coming from one, you don’t usually get the chance to move to another one, so I’m happy to be here,” he added.
