Tyler Adams was voted Leeds United’s man of the match on Sunday afternoon as the Whites shocked Chelsea to win 3-0 at Elland Road – and Leeds icon Brian Deane has compared the midfielder to Manchester City legend Fernandinho.
Adams, 23, started his third game for Leeds after a £20million summer move from Germany club RB Leipzig. A club where he played under current Leeds boss Jesse Marsch. Marsch and Adams also crossed paths at New York Red Bulls.
Replacing Kalvin Phillips, Leeds have introduced a two-man pivot that combines Adams with Spanish ace Marc Roca. Adams is seen doing the dirty work as a ball-winning midfielder, while Roca is more of a deep-lying playmaker.
His numerous tackles, interceptions, blocks and short passing saw USA international Adams earn man of the match. That is despite stunning performances from USA teammate Brenden Aaronson – as well as Jack Harrison and Rodrigo.
Leeds posted a video on their Instagram of the midfielder’s performance, highlighting his best moments throughout the match. It sees Adams dictate the likes or Jorginho, Conor Gallagher and plenty of other Chelsea superstars.

What a performance it was. According to WhoScored, Adams was joint first alongside Pascal Struijk in tackles made, more than any other Chelsea player. He made three interceptions, again, more than any other Leeds player.
It was a stand-out performance from both player and club. The kind of display that gives a side the basis to go on and produce a winning result, as Leeds did against Chelsea. Tactically, and with the crowd, it was a perfect 90 minutes.
Deane was watching on at Elland Road having reported for duties with Sky Sports during the match. He has since responded to the video of Adams on Instagram, comparing him with a young Fernandinho.
