The Leeds United co-owner is not in talks to buy Brescia despite claims to the contrary.

Italian side Brescia have released a statement on their official website following claims that Leeds co-owner Massimo Cellino was in talks to sign the Serie B team.

Cellino recently sold a 50 per cent stake at Elland Road to Andrea Radrizzani and there is a feeling among some Leeds fans that he is planning his complete exit sooner rather than later.

However, any suggestions that Brescia could be his next project appear to be wide of the mark according to the club itself.

The statement reads: “In relation to the insistent news about the impending sale of the club, Giuseppe Pirola…declares that the club has not been sold and is not in any negotiations at the moment. In particular there is no contact, direct or indirect, with Cellino.”

Those Leeds fans keen for the Italian to leave England for good may not welcome the announcement, but the simple fact is the Whites are doing so well at the moment that even his fiercest critic will struggle to point the finger at Cellino this season.

He has backed the club with money, helped sign the right players and brought in a manager who finally looks set to guide Leeds back to the top flight after far too long a way from English football’s top table.
