Rangers star Lewis MacLeod is on the verge of a £1m move to Brentford.
There can be no doubting that Brentford are a club on the up.
With one of the country’s brightest young managers at the helm in Mark Warburton, a superb scouting network who have discovered Spanish playmaker Jota – who is seen as a Championship version of David Silva – and a new stadium on the way, the Bees are moving in the right direction.
Promotion to the Championship last season meant the aim was supposed to be consolidation in the second tier after years in League One and Two, but Warburton’s men currently lie in sixth place, just four points off an automatic promotion spot.
Brentford’s ambition has seen them form out big sums of money for the likes of Scott Hogan, Moses Odubajo and Andre Gray in the last six months, and they seem poised to do it again.
Reports breaking today suggest that Rangers star Lewis MacLeod is poised to undergo a medical with the West London club ahead of a shock £1m move.
MacLeod, 20, has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football after impressing at Ibrox, and even attracted interest from Aston Villa, Burnley and Newcaslte.
Now though, MacLeod is set to complete his move to Griffin Park – no doubt with some influence from Brentford assistant David Weir, a former Rangers defender – as Brentford look for a long-term answer to Alex Pritchard.
Pritchard, 21, is currently on loan at Brentford from Tottenham, but Spurs rejected their bid to sign him permanently on Monday, and MacLeod looks like being their alternative to him, with Pritchard usually playing in a central attacking midfield role for Brentford.
Rangers are strapped for cash and had to accept the £1m bid, and whilst fans are disappointed, the club needed the money.
