On Tuesday, the Bees were beaten by the Blades, who are in a three-horse race for the Championship’s top two alongside Leeds and Norwich.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank was left impressed with Sheffield United’s performance in Tuesday night’s Championship encounter between the two sides at Bramall Lane.
The Blades ran out 2-0 winners over the Bees despite playing around two thirds of the game with ten men following Gary Madine’s red card in the 35th minute.
Frank’s charges fell behind in the 26th minute when Yoann Barbet fouled George Baldock inside the box, allowing Oliver Norwood to score from the penalty spot.
Following Madine’s dismissal for for a late challenge on Ezri Konsa, United shut up shop at the back and went on to kill off the game on 84 minutes through David McGoldrick.
The result means United remain just two points clear of Championship leaders Leeds United, keeping the three-horse race for promotion very tight, and Frank has tipped the Blades to finish in the top two.
When asked whether he thought the South Yorkshire side could clinch an automatic promotion slot, Frank was quoted by Football London as saying: “Yeah, I see that.
“I know they need to say one game at a time but they’re full of confidence and they know they create chances. If they can keep us from scoring in 60 minutes when we play 11 against 10 then that’s very good.”
Brentford sit 14th in the Championship table following their defeat and return to action on Saturday with a game against West Bromwich Albion at Griffin Park.
