Brentford technical director Lee Dykes looks set to leave the club.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Leeds United have opened talks with Brentford with a view to bringing the Bees’ technical director, Lee Dykes, to Elland Road. The Yorkshire outfit are seeking a replacement for Victor Orta who has taken on a new role at Sevilla, replacing Monchi at the Spanish club, who has been reunited this summer with Unai Emery at Aston Villa.

The development will certainly be a blow to Brentford. Dykes has been a fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium since 2019, and has played a crucial role in the club’s successes in the transfer market throughout his tenure. He originally joined the club’s recruitment team, before being promoted to technical director.

What this means for Brentford’s summer

Despite Dykes having a vital role at the club, Brentford will be able to pursue their transfer targets this summer even if he does depart. Those who currently work with Dykes, and under his gaze, will be able to take up the slack in this department to ensure that deals continue to get done.

Thomas Frank will be keen to see that a permanent replacement is named though, someone who can maintain Brentford’s pro-active nature in the market. The manager’s working relationship with Dykes has been a key factor in the club’s recent success. Fans will hope that losing the club’s technical director is something that the Bees’ hierarchy have internally worked on a pre-prepared plan for.

As for Leeds, if they can convince Dykes to jump ship it will bode well for them in rebuilding a squad than can compete for a return to the Premier League before too long.
