Mads Bidstrup has joined RB Salzburg from Brentford.

Brentford have officially confirmed the departure of Mads Bidstrup, who has been sold to RB Salzburg for an undisclosed fee. The move brings an end to Bidstrup’s three year stay at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The 21-year-old made 14 appearances for the Brentford senior team, including four Premier League outings. However, he didn’t get regular football until joining Nordsjælland on loan. Bidstrup flourished with the Danish outfit last season, making 34 appearances and establishing himself as a key figure in the middle of the park, as he went on to win the club’s official Player of the Year award.

Are Brentford making a mistake letting Bidstrup go?

Brentford may regret letting go of Bidstrup if he goes on to reach his full potential. Thomas Frank will be well aware that his young compatriot has plenty of raw talent. Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, has certainly been full of praise for Bidstrup. Giles said, “Mads is one of the best professionals we have worked with…he is so dedicated and is someone who always scores highly on our athletic testing…ideally we would’ve liked to work with him for longer,” as quoted by the club’s official website.

Frank can’t guarantee Bidstrup the game time he needs at this stage in his career. In that context, cashing in on the Denmark under-21 international makes sense. Bees fans will be hoping this decision doesn’t come back to haunt them.
