In what seemed an incredibly quick turn of events, Brentford boss Dean Smith left the Championship side to join Aston Villa.

A number of Brentford fans have taken to Twitter to react to the dramatic news that Dean Smith has left Griffin Park to take the vacant manager’s job at Aston Villa.
Unsurprisingly, the boyhood Villa fan appeared to be a contender for the post from the moment that Steve Bruce was dismissed in the wake of their 3-3 draw with Preston North End last week.
But the longer the search went on, the more likely it appeared that Smith would remain at Brentford and another name would be appointed by the Villans, with a large number of candidates linked in an incredibly short space of time.
Then, in what felt like a turn of events that came out of nowhere, Smith was quickly appointed by Villa on Wednesday night, with John Terry becoming his assistant following his retirement from playing.

While Brentford fans may have feared the possibility of Smith being tempted to leave the Bees, it must have still come as a surprise how quickly the pieces fell into place.
In reaction to the news, a number of Bees fans have sent their former boss plenty of classy messages, thanking him for the brilliant work that he has done with the club and wishing him well at Villa – except when they come up against the Bees, of course – but there are one or two supporters who actually feel that they will benefit from this move more than the Villans will.

Here is some of the reaction to the announcement…
