Brentford boss Thomas Frank says he is aware of interest in defender Ezri Konsa but hopes the player will remain at Griffin Park for one more year to aid his development, Football.London report.

“I think Ezri Konsa is a very good, talented player. I think he’ll become very good. I understand that there’s interest in him but I think he’ll learn a lot from one more year in the Championship because there’s a lot of things to develop,” the Brentford boss explained.

“There’s still a big step to go from League One, to the Championship, to the Premier League. I think he has the potential to go there one day.”

Konsa was the subject of a potential move to Arsenal during the January transfer window, but the latest club to be linked with the defender is fellow London club Crystal Palace.

According to a report in The Sun, Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman watched Konsa in action last week and the Eagles plan to move ahead with a bid in the summer should Brentford decide to cash in.

It is reported in The Sun that Brentford value the former Charlton Athletic man at £15 million – a figure which may be enticing for Palace as they feel Konsa has the potential to become a regular in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old only joined Brentford last summer on a three-year deal, but his impressive displays in the Championship for his young age suggests he has a big future ahead of him.

Konsa has started 40 league games for the Bees this season, averaging 3.5 clearances per game.

The 6ft 0inch centre-back has played for England at U21 level but through his father he also has the option to represent DR Congo as a full international.
