Pontus Jansson is set to return to Leeds United for the first time as an opposition player on Wednesday.
The Swedish centre-back signed for Brentford in a £5.5 million deal earlier in the summer.
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is reported to have decided early on in pre-season that he wanted to move forward without Jansson [The Mirror], whose departure couldn’t have divided fans more.
Many Whites supporters were sad to see their popular defender leave the club, while many more believed that him leaving would ultimately benefit the team.
Regardless, the former Torino and Malmo star could receive quite a hostile reception this week, but Brentford boss Thomas Frank says that he won’t hear the fans if he is concentrating on the game.
The Bees’ manager told Richmond and Twickenham Times: “The funny thing is when you’re at the game you sometimes don’t listen to the fans.
“You hear that there’s a lot of sound but it’s just there, and if it’s higher or lower then you don’t notice in a way unless you lose your focus. That’s when they can get into your head, but if you’re in it it’s just like another game.”
Jansson has no doubt retained a major affection for Leeds but, by the same token, he’ll be determined to turn them over, especially in West Yorkshire.
Someone as competitive as the Sweden international will be out to prove a point and that makes for a fascinating subplot.
