Aston Villa are said to be keen on a £9 million deal to sign the striker.

Brentford boss Dean Smith has been commenting on the transfer interest in his striker Scott Hogan – with Aston Villa said to be keen on the player.

A report from The Sun has suggested that Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has identified Hogan as a target for January and is hopeful of concluding a £9 million deal for the Griffin Park star.

Brentford will of course be hoping to keep hold of the player, with their manager Smith suggesting that the transfer talk is not getting to his star striker.

He told getwestlondon:

“This time last year it was all about Alan Judge, now it’s about Scott Hogan.

“But he just goes out to play his football and the speculation goes over his head.”

The 24-year-old, who came back into the game through the non-league system, eventually joining Brentford in 2014.

After suffering with knee injuries for much of his early career at the club he has been in great form this season – scoring 13 goals in 23 appearances and catching the eye of many rival teams.

Aston Villa are set to lose Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew to the African Cup of Nations, whilst Rudy Gestede is being linked with a move away from the club – so a deal to sign Hogan would be welcomed.
