Bees ace Sergi Canos spoke exclusively to the Birmingham Mail, and shared how Steve Bruce’s derogatory comments ahead of the Boxing Day clash between Brentford and Villa spurred him and his teammates on to victory.

The Villans boss suggested that their is no real pressure for players who play at clubs such as Brentford, whereas those who play for Villa are under real scrutiny every time they take to the field of play.

The 20-year-old Bees ace explained how those words proved to be a major motivation for him and his teammates ahead of their clash with the west Midlands outfit at Griffin Park on Tuesday.

He told the Birmingham Mail:

Steve Bruce, Manager of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on April 17, 2017 in London, England.

“When you talk about teams, you look at the past and you don’t realise what they are doing in the present. I think we read what the Aston Villa manager said about us and we didn’t agree in the changing room and we showed everyone that we can push and beat big clubs in this league. That’s a challenge.”

The west Londoners now sit in 12th spot in the Championship table, just four points adrift of their illustrious counterparts, having spent just a fraction of the money laid out by Villa over the past couple of years.

And Bruce will surely be regretting the comments he made regarding Brentford, with his side now sitting in eighth spot in the table, three points adrift of the promotion play-off places.
