Pundit Noel Whelan has told BBC Radio Leeds that he was far from impressed with Modou Barrow’s performance for Leeds United against Brentford on Tuesday night.

The Whites travelled to Griffin Park in search of three points having lost 1-0 at Reading on Saturday afternoon, but it was another away defeat for Garry Monk’s men.

Romaine Sawyers thumped Brentford in front, as the smashed home from the right hand side of the box after Robert Green had saved Sergi Canos’ effort.

The Bees then made it 2-0 before half time, with Lasse Vibe bundling the ball home from close range – and that proved to be the end of the scoring as Leeds failed to find the net again.

Leeds now face a crucial clash with Preston North End this weekend, and one player whose place in the starting line-up could be at risk is winger Modou Barrow.

The January signing from Swansea, 24, had made just four appearances – all as a substitute – for Leeds since reuniting with his former boss Monk, but made his first start against Brentford.

Unfortunately for the Gambian, he failed to make any sort of impact on the game, and was substituted after 68 minutes, with Monk throwing on Kemar Roofe in his place.

After the final whistle, pundit Noel Whelan slammed Barrow’s performance on BBC Radio Leeds, criticising the pacey wide man for failing to take on full backs and offering little in the way of attacking threat.

“He offered nothing really,” said Whelan. “We saw a little bit in the second half, but nothing that’s going to be saying to me ‘we have got to sign that player’ – no. When you look at what Canos delivered tonight and contributed, compared to what our wide men contributed, there’s only one decision on the player you’d want to have in your side.”

“You’re picked to do a job, you’re picked to affect the game, and he hasn’t – it’s as simple as that. We saw it [running at defenders] what, two times, if that? You’ve got to find a way, you’ve got to be cleverer,” he added.
