Brenden Aaronson has told the MLS website that it has been a “whirlwind” behind the scenes at Leeds United since he completed his move from Salzburg to Elland Road in the summer – for a fee believed to be in the region of £25million.
Aaronson, 21, has started all six Premier League games for Leeds since his arrival. In that time, he has scored against Chelsea, laid on an assist against Everton and arguably should have two goals to his name – the winner against Wolves.
His energy, work rate, technical abilities and eye for a pass have impressed the Elland Road crowd. So much so, he already has his own song – Leeds fans conjuring up a new take on Estelle’s American Boy, with a Beeston mix.
Speaking about his start to life at Leeds and his early months in Yorkshire, Aaronson described it as a “whirlwind”. He is currently on international duty with the United States, who take on Japan and Saudi Arabia over the next few days.

“Honestly, a whirlwind. Going in for preseason, you don’t really know what to expect, you know? You’re taking the next step and you’re kind of going in like, ‘Oh, am I at this level?’ sometimes. And then it’s ups and downs.”

What a start the youngster has made. It must be remembered that he is only 21, but is already seen as a mainstay in the side and a crucial part of the identity Jesse Marsch is installing on his side. He is the beating heart of their attack.
It must be said that of all the signings Leeds have made, he has probably made the best start. Although, Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra have all impressed – the latter scoring three goals, two in the Premier League.
Exciting times for Leeds and Aaronson, with the base of their squad so young and only going to grow. A solid, mid-table finish above 15th place would give the Whites a good basis to kick on next term, in Aaronson’s second year.
