Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers reportedly wanted Wigan Athletic’s Nick Powell at Liverpool, but lost out to Manchester United.

According to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 60, February 4, 2018), Celtic are interested in signing Nick Powell from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2018 (click here to read more).
It has also been reported that the Scottish Premiership giants were prepared to make a late move for the former Manchester United youngster, who can operate as a striker or as a midfielder.

The 23-year-old is going strong for Wigan in League One in England, and one suspects that there could be offers for him in the summer.
Celtic’s (reported) interest in Powell does not come as a surprise, as manager Brendan Rodgers (reportedly) wanted the former Crewe Alexandra star when he was at Liverpool.
According to a report in The Mirror in June 2012, Rodgers was looking at the possibility of signing Powell for Liverpool in the summer of 2012.

The attacker was then on the books of Crewe, and was also claimed to be of interest to Manchester United and Arsenal.
Then 18, Powell moved to the Red Devils to work with then United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but the youngster failed to make an impact at Old Trafford and joined Wigan in 2016.
Powell has been superb for the Latics, and if Celtic sign him in the summer of 2018, then they would get a player who is on course to fulfil his potential.
