The Celtic manager wanted a creative midfielder, and Arsenal-owned Bournemouth player Jack Wilshere would have been a perfect signing.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was quoted as saying by The Scottish Sun last week that he wanted to sign a creative midfielder.
The former Liverpool and Swansea City boss made it clear, though, that he is happy with the signings he made in the summer transfer window.
“I wanted to bring another creative player into our midfield to support the players we had here,” The Scottish Sun quoted Rodgers as saying.
“But I’ll never bring in anyone just for the sake of bringing in a player. It has to be the right type of player and profile otherwise you waste time, money and energy.”

Celtic were linked with a creative midfielder of Premier League quality – Jack Wilshere.
According to The Telegraph, the Scottish Premiership were among a number of clubs who wanted to sign the England international midfielder on loan from Arsenal.
Crystal Palace, Watford and AS Roma also made moves for the 24-year-old, according to the report, but in the end it was Bournemouth who secured his services on a season-long loan deal.
Celtic manager Rodgers should have pushed harder to sign Wilshere, especially as it was clear that Arsenal were ready to loan him out.

It may have been the midfielder’s decision to join Bournemouth, but there can be no denial that the Bhoys have missed out on a player who would have enhanced their quality.
Wilshere has had injury issues over the past few years, but now he is fully fit and is determined to get back to his best.
The Arsenal midfielder would have been a great fit for Celtic, with Rodgers playing a very attacking and attractive football at the Scottish giants.
Wilshere is a creative midfielder, and he would have been a great hit in the Scottish Premiership.
Perhaps the Scottish top flight would have been too easy for the Englishman, but he would have been an important player for Celtic in the Champions League.
The Arsenal man can play as a deep-lying midfielder too, and he could have deployed in that role as well for the Bhoys.
Perhaps the wages of Wilshere would have been a problem for Celtic, but it would have been a real coup for the Scottish Premiership giants had they signed him on a season-long loan deal.
