Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard featured out wide against St Johnstone.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he thought Odsonne Edouard did ‘very well’ in an unfamiliar role out wide against St Johnstone.
The Bhoys needed to bounce back with a strong performance in their Scottish League Cup tie at McDiarmid Park, having come in for stern criticism following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock.
It looked like being another frustrating night for Celtic as they struggled to break down a resilient St Johnstone side, who were looking for a response themselves after a 5-1 thrashing at Rangers.
However, Celtic did eventually found the opening goal, as Leigh Griffiths pounced late on to hand the Bhoys the win and a place in the semi-finals.
Rodgers will be hoping to spark an improved run of form, and he managed to claim last night’s win by fielding both Odsonne Edouard and Griffiths in attack – but not in a front two.
Instead, French striker Edouard moved out wide to the left, with James Forrest on the right to give Celtic a three-man attack as Scott Sinclair continues to struggle for form.

Now, Rodgers has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he thinks Edouard did ‘very well’ against St Johnstone, adding that he is a very clever player but maybe not a natural goalscorer like Griffiths, suggesting that he may continue in that role in the future.
“He is a very clever footballer Odsonne, so him playing off the side is something he has done a number of times for us,” said Rodgers. “He’s probably not the out and out goalscorer Leigh is, but he brings a great intelligence and pace and touch, I thought he did very well,” he added.
