Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Mail that he thought winger Scott Sinclair was ‘different class’ when he came on against Hearts on Sunday.

The Bhoys were looking to book their place in the final of the Betfred Cup on Sunday, as they played Hearts at Murrayfield after weeks of squabbling over the ‘neutral’ venue.

At half time, the game was finely poised at 0-0, but Celtic ended up running out clear winners with a 3-0 victory, with Sinclair scoring from the spot before James Forrest and Ryan Christie also found the net.

After what has been a patchy season so far, Celtic fans will be delighted with the performance, and will hope it continues against Dundee in the league this evening.

Winger Sinclair will certainly be looking for a start having third goal of the season on Sunday, as he looks to play himself back into form after some criticism about his displays in 2018.

The 29-year-old – brought to Celtic by Rodgers in 2016 having worked together at Chelsea and Swansea City – became a star with 25 goals in his first season with the club, but scored just 10 league goals last season.

Sinclair hasn’t hit top form this season, and Rodgers has now told the Daily Mail that he thinks Sinclair is looking more like himself having starred as a 26th minute substitute against Hearts, noting that he was ‘different class’ at Murrayfield.

“Every player is a confidence player,” said Rodgers. “When Scott came into the game he looked different class but he’s a big-game player. He’s played in enough big games and shown up well. As soon as he came on he got at his man and took off from there. He looked a lot more like himself and it was great to see,” he added.
