Celtic snapped up Jonny Hayes from Aberdeen this summer.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told the Scottish Sun that he believes Jonny Hayes would be able to cover at left-back.

Celtic have allowed Emilio Izaguirre to move on this summer, meaning that their options at left-back look short.

However, Rodgers insists that youngster Calvin Miller and Hayes will be able to fill in on the left-hand side of defence, should anything happen to first choice Kieran Tierney.

“Calvin Miller is progressing well, he looks a stronger player this season. I like the look of him,” Rodgers said.

“If I was looking more attacking, I have young Jonny Hayes who can play there.

“He’s played there a number of times for Aberdeen and he can defend as well, he puts his foot in and he’s aggressive.

‘If we have to adapt, we can do so.”

Hayes was signed for Celtic from Aberdeen this summer, and he has already stated that he would be willing to play in any position to break into the team.

While Tierney is highly unlikely to be replaced in Celtic’s line-up, Hayes’ versatility could prove vital over the course of the campaign.

Celtic are in action later this evening, when they take on Rosenborg in Champions League qualification.

The Bhoys are the favourites to make it through to the next round, but will have to be on their guard against the Norwegian opponents.
