Celtic take on Lincoln Red Imps in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier later this evening.
Brendan Rodgers has told the Glasgow Evening Times that Mikael Lustig could be an option for Celtic at centre-back.
The Bhoys are short of numbers in the heart of their defence, with an injury crisis plaguing the squad.
Both Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata are sidelined for Celtic’s match against Lincoln Red Imps in Champions League qualification this evening.
It leaves Rodgers with a selection dilemma, but the Northern Irish boss has hinted that he could utilise Lustig, who is generally deployed as a full-back, in the heart of his side’s defence.
“If I felt it could benefit the team, then I would play Mika at centre half,” he said.
“There are players I am finding out can work in different areas. Mika, for me, can play centre half in a lot of games, if required. He has that quality and international experience.
“He can serve the ball, he is aggressive and I’d have no hesitation playing him there if that’s what the team needed.”
In the first leg, Celtic paired Efe Ambrose and Eric Sviatchenko alongside each other at centre-back.
However, they both struggled – with Ambrose’s performance coming in for particular criticism.
Ambrose was at fault for the goal which Celtic conceded in the tie, which leaves them with a 1-0 deficit to make up.
Celtic have not made it through to the Champions League for the last two seasons, and they will desperate to avoid a humiliating defeat later this evening.
