Celtic are set to face Manchester City in Champions League action on Wednesday evening.
Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Record that Craig Gordon could start for his Celtic side in their match against Manchester City on Wednesday evening.
Gordon has been dropped to the substitutes’ bench since Rodgers took over, with Dorus De Vries replacing him as the Bhoys’ number one.
However, De Vries picked up an injury and had to be taken off during Celtic’s 6-1 win over Kilmarnock yesterday.
There are now fears that the Dutch stopper could be out for Celtic’s midweek Champions League match.
But Rodgers insists that he will have no issues with putting Gordon in between the sticks for the contest.
“100 per cent. He’s more than capable,” Rodgers said, when asked whether Gordon was ready to start.
“He’s a brilliant shot stopper, he’s improving his game with his feet all the time. It’s a part of how I work, players have to work that way, there’s no compromise, no choice, and he’s more than capable to come in, of course.”
Celtic were hammered by Barcelona in their first Champions League group stage match of the season, and will be keen to avoid a similarly heavy defeat against City.
Pep Guardiola’s side do go into the match in wonderful form though, having won their first 10 matches of the season.
City are already leading the Premier League, and Celtic will be huge underdogs to pick anything up in the midweek match, even with home advantage on their side.
