Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has showered praise on Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has showered praise on Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, saying that the England international is a natural goal-scorer.

While analyzing his team and the need of a striker, Rodgers said that he can coach a centre-half or a right-back. However, goal-scoring is something that should come naturally to a striker.

He asserts that it is for this particular reason, strikers in the modern football are highly in demand, and clubs pay big money for their services.

Rodgers says that strikers have an in-built instinct of scoring goals. He cited Liverpool striker Sturridge as an example, saying the 27-year-old never practiced finishing.

The Celtic manager has hailed the former Chelsea striker as “born a goal-scorer”, who has every finish in the book.

“They have an in-built brain for the goal and the game. I had Daniel Sturridge,” said Rodgers, as quoted by The Daily Record.

“He never practised finishing. Never. As soon as the session was finished in he would go. He was just born a goalscorer and had every finish in the book.

“Some other strikers would work on finishing for half an hour every day. Daniel, not once. Not because he was lazy. It was because he knew when he stepped on to the pitch that was it. He knew where the goal was. He could smell it.”

Rodgers signed Sturridge in the January transfer window of 2013. He has scored 46 Premier League goals in 89 games for the club so far.

Sturridge is a natural finisher. And Rodgers is spot on here. When he is fit and firing (his fitness has been a big issue), he is as good as any top striker in the Premier League.

This season is massive for Sturridge. After a long time, he has gone through a full pre-season under Jurgen Klopp and looks in great shape.

If he can stay fit throughout the season, Liverpool can expect plenty of goals from him. However, the big question is “if” he stays fit.
