Celtic won against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light at the weekend.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told the club’s official website that Callum McGregor will be an important player for the club in the coming years.

Rodgers made the comments following McGregor’s performance for Celtic against Sunderland in a pre-season friendly match at the weekend.

The 24-year-old central midfielder scored a hat-trick in the Glasgow giants’ 5-0 victory over the Black Cats away from home at the Stadium of Light in the Dafabet Cup on Saturday afternoon.

The former Scotland Under-21 international found the net in the fifth minute, 15th and 58th minute of the match.

Celtic manager Rodgers was impressed with the performance of the midfielder, and has stated that he will be an important player for the team in the coming month.

“Callum, I have said it before, is a top young talent and he will be very important for us in the season and you saw that today,” Rodgers told Celtic’s official website. “He also has the ability to score goals.”

Rodgers’s comments will be welcomed by McGregor, who has been on the books of Celtic his entire professional club football career so far; he should be encouraged by the praise from the former Liverpool and Swansea City manager.

The midfielder is a very talented and promising midfielder, and the Scotsman would be important for the Hoops during the 2017-18 campaign.
