Celtic need new additions as they look to fend off renewed competition from Rangers and Brendan Rodgers should look to use his Chelsea connections.

Brendan Rodgers, Manager of Celtic celebrates following the Scottish Cup Final between Motherwell and Celtic at Hampden Park on May 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic must look to improve their squad again in the transfer market this summer if they are to stave off what promises to be a more competitive Rangers and to progress in the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers has done a remarkable job at Celtic with his transfer business proving particularly shrewd.

While Scottish Premiership clubs will struggle to compete with the crazy fees being paid in the modern transfer market there are still some bargains or loan signings to be had.

And Rodgers should use his connections at former club Chelsea to bring starlet Kasey Palmer to Celtic.

Kasey Palmer of Huddersfield Town during the Premier League match between Everton and Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park on December 2, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Palmer has gained vital experience by spending the last two seasons on loan at Huddersfield and Derby County and proves he could handle representing a big club like Celtic.

The young midfielder, who played a key role for the Terriers as they were promoted to the Premier League, has played for England at all age groups and starred as the Under 21s were crowned Toulon Tournament champions back in 2016.

That is something Rodgers – who keeps a keen eye on emerging talent across Europe – will be well aware of.

Now 21, Palmer is hungry to continue to play regular first team football.

Chelsea rate the player highly but believe an imminent first team breakthrough is unlikely which could pave the way for Celtic to take the player on an initial loan deal.

According to The Daily Mail, the likes of Newcastle and Birmingham are serious contenders for Palmer’s signature in a season-long loan move.

But given the size of the Hoops and the fact Celtic are in the Champions League it should give Rodgers a distinct advantage.
