Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side have dropped down to third in the Scottish Premiership table.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted to the Daily Record that he couldn’t believe his side conceded a goal so early against Hibernian in their last match.

Celtic had not conceded a goal in the first half prior to their match against Hibs last weekend, but they could not keep Neil Lennon’s side out for more than a minute.

Vykintas Slivka netted early on against Celtic, and that goal put Rodgers’ side on the back-foot immediately.

Celtic never recovered, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Easter Road, and Rodgers admits he was stunned that his team started so slowly.

“It was the first game that we conceded a goal in the first half this season domestically so that tells you why I was so shocked at conceding so early,” Rodgers admitted.

“We normally start really brightly and with a tempo but the first goal put us on the back foot, it gave Hibs oxygen and a surge of adrenalin to hang on to that.”

Celtic’s defeat to Hibernian has been damaging to them, as it has seen them slip down the Scottish Premiership table.

The Bhoys are in the very unfamiliar position of having to play catch up now, as they are in third place.

Celtic can go back to the top of the league tonight though, if they are able to get past the challenge of Motherwell.
