Brendan Rodgers shares what Thiago told him about Celtic’s players

Celtic were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Record that Bayern Munich pair Thiago and Arjen Robben were praising Celtic’s players after their Champions League clash on Tuesday evening.

Celtic were beaten 2-1 by Bayern, but they managed to give Jupp Heynckes’ in-form side an almighty scare.

The Bhoys were backed by a vociferous crowd at Parkhead, and they pressed and harried Bayern admirably.

Celtic’s players could actually feel hard done by that they ended up on the losing side during the contest, as they deserved more.

And Rodgers said that even Bayern’s players were impressed by the performance of the Bhoys.

“What the players earned against Bayern was respect,” Rodgers said.

“That was what Arjen Robben and young Thiago were saying afterwards. They were outstanding, that’s what they were saying.

“So for our players to play with that quality makes me proud. It’s a nice pat on the back for them.”

Celtic were undone by individual errors against Bayern, as Craig Gordon and Dedryck Boyata made howlers to allow Kingsley Coman to score the first goal.

Celtic did hit back through Callum McGregor to level to scores, but their joy was short lived.

Bayern went back in front when Javi Martinez bravely headed home from close range.

Celtic now cannot qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, but will be looking to protect third spot to ensure that they make it into the Europa League.
