Celtic have three players nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the year award.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted to the Daily Express that he has been left shocked that Celtic midfielder Scott Brown didn’t receive a nomination for the PFA Scotland Player of the year award.

Celtic’s Moussa Dembele, Stuart Armstrong and Scott Sinclair have been nominated for the honour, alongside Aberdeen’s Johnny Hayes.

And Rodgers admits that he cannot believe that Brown has not earned recognition from his fellow professionals for the quality of the season he has had.

“I am very surprised,” Rodgers said. “I look at Kante down south, a central midfield player who is not flash and does the dirty work – but does it to a real top level.

“That’s what Scott Brown does. I don’t know how he was last year, but consistently over 50 games this season he has been a top performer.

“He has had one bad game, Hearts away. Every other game he was eight out of 10, nine out of 10.”

Brown has been a virtual mainstay in Celtic’s side this season, with the combative midfielder being handed a key role.

There were actually some doubts over how important Brown would be to Rodgers, when the Northern Irish boss first took over.

However, the Scotland international has enjoyed one of his best campaigns ever since Rodgers took charge.

Rodgers has always spoken very highly of Brown, and it seems that the 31-year-old will continue to play a very important part for the Bhoys over the coming years.

Celtic are next in action this weekend, when they take on St Johnstone.
