Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says that coaches at the Glasgow club still rave about the Liverpool transfer target.
Brendan Rodgers has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 22nd December, that Celtic coaches still rave about Virgil Van Dijk.
Van Dijk left Celtic to join Southampton back in 2015, after spending two seasons at Parkhead.
Since leaving the Glasgow club, the Dutch international has gone on to develop a reputation as one of the finest players in the Premier League.
Rodgers’ former club, Liverpool, are now said to be interested in signing the Southampton defender in the January transfer window (Daily Mirror).
And Rodgers feels that Van Dijk would be a good addition for Liverpool, as he has only heard positive things about the centre-back since taking charge at Celtic.
“The boy is a very, very good player,” Rodgers said. “He’s got a real profile to play at the very top. Everything I hear from the coaches here say he’s a top lad, and he wants to learn. He’s 6ft 4inch and he’s got everything. He’s a top player.”
Van Dijk made 115 appearances for Celtic during his time in Scottish football, but his talent quickly alerted the attentions of Premier League clubs.
If Van Dijk does move on from Southampton, Celtic are believed to be set to profit from the transfer.
The Daily Mail suggest that Celtic have a sell on clause, meaning they will be entitled to some of the funds that Southampton raise for the powerful defender.
