Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers admits that his Glasgow side nearly completed a deal for an expensive player in January.
Brendan Rodgers has told BBC Sport that Celtic nearly completed a big money transfer in the January transfer window.
Rodgers had identified an unnamed target for Celtic in January, and the club almost completed a deal.
However, the Bhoys boss has suggested some last minute doubts over the player’s suitability for the Glasgow club scuppered the transfer.
“You have to spend, but the club have been great for me. We could have signed a player that I wanted to get in the last window, for quite a large sum of money, but for me it has to be the right player,” he said.
“If the right player becomes available and the affordability is there then the club will back me like they’ve done since the first day I walked into Celtic Park.”
Celtic have dominated Scottish football this season, and they are still yet to lose a domestic match.
The Bhoys wrapped up their sixth successive Scottish Premiership title by beating Hearts 5-0 in their most recent outing.
Celtic are now thinking about next season, and Rodgers’ admission that he has money to spend in the summer could strike fear into Scottish football.
If Celtic improve this summer it is hard to see anybody competing with Rodgers’ side again next term.
Celtic are next in action on Wednesday evening against Partick, when a party atmosphere is expected at Parkhead.
