West Bromwich Albion and Southampton have been linked with Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong in the summer transfer window.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Scottish Sun that he wants Stuart Armstrong to remain at the club.

Armstrong is one of the best players at Celtic and was in brilliant form for Brendan Rodgers’s side during the 2016-17 campaign.

As reported by The Birmingham Mail, the 25-year-old midfielder scored 15 goals in 31 Scottish Premiership games for the Hoops last season.

The Scotland international’s performances have not gone unnoticed in the Premier League, as he has been linked with moves to the top flight of English football in the summer transfer window.

According to The Scottish Sun, Southampton and Brighton and Hove Albion want Armstrong, while The Birmingham Mail has credited West Bromwich Albion with interest in the former Dundee United star.

Celtic manager Rodgers, though, has made it clear that he wants to keep Armstrong in his team for the 2017-18 campaign, and has said that the player himself wants to remain at Celtic Park.

“We hope he signs a new one,” Rodgers told The Scottish Sun about Armstrong. “I speak regularly with the boy and he wants to be here.

“If his agent can speak with the club and organise a deal then it would be great. He’s a boy I really like and someone who still has development, a young player who I believe wants to be at Celtic.”

Rodgers’s comments about Armstrong will come as a blow to Southampton, Brighton and West Brom, as it seems that the former Liverpool manager considers the Scotsman as an important player for Celtic.
