Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in January 2018.
Rodgers, who was appointed as the Celtic manager in the summer of 2016, was in charge of Liverpool from 2012 until October 2015.
The former Swansea City boss has revealed that he wanted to sign Mkhitaryan for Liverpool before he left for Borussia Dortmund from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The 29-year-old Armenia international midfielder joined Manchester United from Dortmund in 2016 and switched to North London outfit Arsenal in January 2018.
Armen Press quotes Rodgers as saying: “Yes, I have talked to Mkhitaryan in 2014 and we had quite a long talk.
“At that time he was not physically ready for playing at the Premier League and decided to move to the Borussia Dortmund. He is a perfect football player, fast, technically rich and very talented.”
Important player for Arsenal
Mkhitaryan struggled to make an impact at United under manager Jose Mourinho, but the Armenia intention will be aiming to establish himself as a key figure for Arsenal.
The 29-year-old midfielder – who earns £180,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – made nine starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal in the second of last season, scoring two goals and providing four assists in the process.
