Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata is reportedly wanted by Sevilla in the summer transfer window.
Celtic have just lost to Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership, and one suspects that the mood among the Glasgow giants’ fans will be that of disappointment.
Although Hearts are a good team and had home advantage for this afternoon’s match, Celtic are a much stronger side and were favourites for the encounter.
However, Kyle Lafferty’s goal in the early minutes of the second half proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Dedryck Boyata update
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, though, has some very good news for the fans on a day when the team’s chances of going through the entire season unbeaten evaporated.
After the match against Hearts, the former Liverpool boss revealed that Celtic are working on a deal to keep Dedryck Boyata.
Rodgers is confident Boyata will not leave Celtic in the summer transfer window, and he has revealed that the Bhoys are working on a new contract for the Belgium international.
Positive for Celtic
According to The Daily Record, Spanish club Sevilla are interested in signing Boyata in the summer transfer window.
Losing the 27-year-old, who is arguably the best central defender at Celtic, would be a massive blow, but Rodgers’s latest comments suggest that the Celtic Park faithful have nothing to worry about.
Rodgers told BBC Sport after the match against Hearts: “The club were trying to organise a deal, but Dedryck’s agent wasn’t so keen for him to sign a deal before the World Cup, which you can understand.
“They have been in discussion but nothing concrete as of yet. The plan is for him to stay here and I don’t see that changing.
“We don’t want to lose him. It’s very difficult to get good centre-halves and he’s really developed.”
