Brendan Rodgers has paid tribute to Celtic captain Scott Brown.
The 34-year-old midfielder has captained the Hoops to their ninth-successive Premiership title, after Neil Lennon’s side were confirmed champions this week.
Despite his advancing years, Brown remains a vital figure in Celtic’s midfield and his trophy haul is evidence of that.
The former Scotland international, who turns 35 next month, was also Rodgers’s captain during his two-and-a-half year spell in Glasgow, where the Northern Irish manager won seven domestic trophies out of a possible seven.
And Rodgers, who left to join Leicester City last February, has told Celtic’s official website that Brown, a £4.4 million signing in 2007, is just a phenomenal.
He said: “What I love about Scott is that he plays every game like it’s the first time anyone’s watching him. It doesn’t matter if it’s away at the Nou Camp or up at Ross County, he’s up for every single game.
“So he’s a phenomenal player and also a huge part of the glue that pulls everything together within the players. He’s selfless. He looks after them and he looks after the club.”
Brown will tell you himself that he isn’t the most gifted player to ever pull on a Celtic shirt, but he is certainly one of the most inspirational.
Next season is particularly massive for the veteran skipper and if he leads the Bhoys to a historic 10-in-a-row then that, combined with the three successive trebles since 2016, will cement his status as one of the most important players to ever represent the famous Scottish giants.
