Celtic are on course to meet Brendan Rodgers’s mid-season expectations.
Brendan Rodgers has told Sky Sports that his Celtic side are well on course to meet the mid-season targets that he set for his players.
The Hoops have already won the League Cup this season – their fourth successive domestic trophy under the Northern Irishman – and will compete in the Europa League in February after successfully finishing third in a Champions League group that consisted of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Anderlecht.
In addition to that, Celtic are also going well in the Scottish Premiership and boast a five-point lead over second-placed Aberdeen as the winter break approaches.
Rodgers, whose side have two games left before the break, revealed that he wants at least a 10-point cushion at the summit of the table by then, but said that the two other other goals for his three-point plan at this stage of the campaign have been reached.
“I said to the players a number of weeks ago about three targets coming up to the 30th of December, if we could win the League Cup, if we could qualify for Europa League and if we can have a double figure advantage by the time we arrive out of the winter break, that’d be a brilliant season,” said Rodgers to Sky Sports.
Celtic beat Partick Thistle 2-0 on Wednesday after losing 4-0 at Aberdeen at the weekend.
That match ended the Bhoys’ 69-match unbeaten run under the former Liverpool boss, who hadn’t lost a domestic game since taking the job in May 2016 – a phenomenal achivement, but picking up a second successive treble, coupled with a respectable Europa League run, has to be the aim now.
