Celtic are reportedly trying to sign Eupen star Henry Onyekuru.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Scotsman that ‘there is nothing to add’ when asked about the club’s failed bid to sign Eupen attacker Henry Onyekuru.

The Bhoys were in Scottish Cup action on Sunday afternoon, and booked their passage into the fifth round of the competition by beating Albion Rovers 3-0 away from home.

Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong – three of the key players in Rodgers’ first season as Celtic manager – all got on the scoresheet as Celtic continue their superb performances under Rodgers.

Celtic now head into the final stages of the transfer window having signed just the one player this month, with Ivorian midfielder Kouassi Eboue signing from Russian outfit Krasnodar earlier this month.

It’s unclear whether Celtic will bring anybody else in before the transfer deadline, but they appear to have been trying to make a move to bring in a new attacker over the last few days.

The Express report that Celtic have failed with an offer of just over £1million for Eupen winger Henry Onyekuru, with the Belgian side telling Celtic that the Nigerian will cost around £3million this month.

Onyekuru, 19, has hit 12 goals and six assists in all competitions, becoming one of the most promising young players in Belgium with his pace and goal threat, so it’s no surprise that Celtic are showing an interest in him.

After Sunday’s game, Rodgers was asked about the situation, and told The Scotsman that there is no news to add on Celtic’s pursuit of Onyekuru, but he’s hoping to add to the squad before the deadline.

“No, there is nothing to add to it,” said Rodgers. “But we have obviously got another week or so to go. I want to add to the squad to keep the freshness and quality. But only if it is the right time and the player is available at the right level of affordability. Then we can look at doing it. If not, I’ll just have to wait until the summer,” he added.
