Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker has been linked with Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker in the summer transfer window.

According to The Mirror, the 25-year-old central defender has held talks with the Bhoys and is set to be offered a deal by the Glasgow giants.

The former Cardiff City centre-back worked with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City during the 2011-12 season when he was on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic manager Rodgers has now responded to speculation linking the Scottish Premiership giants with a move for the former Spurs defender in the summer transfer window.

The former Swansea and Liverpool boss has revealed that he has spoken to Caulker as he battles gambling, depression and drink problems, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“We spoke at length about his life, his situation and where he’s at,” Rodgers told The Scottish Sun about Caulker. “He’s a boy that, if he can get it together and find a peace, then he is an awesome talent.

“He is 6ft 3ins, quick, strong, he can play. You would take him to WAR with you. Steven is unbelievable in both boxes. He is an incredible young footballer, but he is suffering.

“Having had experience in trying to help him then, I was only too happy to do that. At this stage there is nothing more than that.

“He is obviously a QPR player. I was only too happy to speak to him and help him try to shape his life.”

Caulker is a good defender and would be a good signing for Celtic, who could do with a centre-back given the injury suffered by Dedryck Boyata.

As reported by The Glasgow Evening Times, the 26-year-old defender has been ruled for up to three months with a medial ligament injury.
