Celtic will take on Old Firm rivals Rangers at home this weekend. The Bhoys will lock horns with the Gers at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers’s side will head into the match as favourites. Celtic are running away with the Scottish Premiership title and are unbeaten in the league so far this season.
Frank McAvennie recently claimed that the Bhoys could win handsomely against Rangers. The former Celtic striker suggested to The Scottish Sun that Rodgers would be thinking of winning the Old Firm derby 7-0 or 8-0.
Celtic manager Rodgers has laughed off that suggestion, but he does not seem to have discounted wining big against Rangers.
“I saw Frank’s comments – maybe he had had a beer!” Rodgers jokingly told The Glasgow Evening Times. “You can never predict or forecast, all you can do is go in with the right mindset and hopefully you can play well and win the game.
“It is not the real world. We want to do well and go out and get the result as we have done for the three games that we have played so we will be fighting and pushing to get the win. It is never easy – except in theory. It is never easy on the field.”
Rodgers is certainly not going to make bold claims ahead of the match, but he does not seem to have categorically denied that Celtic could win big against Rangers.
While it is hard to see the Bhoys score seven or eight goals against the Gers, they should be confident of finding the net at least twice.
