Gary Mackay-Steven was given a chance to impress for Celtic against Manchester City.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Mail that he was impressed with Gary Mackay-Steven’s pace and aggression against Manchester City.
The Bhoys travelled to Manchester on Tuesday evening to take on Pep Guardiola’s side in their final game of the Champions League group stage, and put up a great fight at the Etihad Stadium.
Celtic’s Gary Mackay-Steven shoots at goal
Rodgers’ side took an early lead as Patrick Roberts – currently on loan at Celtic from opponents City – scored against his parent club, only for City attacker Kelechi Iheanacho to grab an instant equaliser.
Both sides could have won the game, as City ace Nolito had a goal ruled out before Leigh Griffiths put a shot wide of the far post for Celtic, but the biggest late chance fell to winger Gary Mackay-Steven.
The wide man was played in on goal down the left, but goalkeeper Willy Caballero managed to keep his shot out as Celtic’s best chance to win the game came and went.

It was a surprise appearance for Mackay-Steven; the Scot hasn’t featured at all this season and hasn’t played for Celtic sine April, but he came on for the injured James Forrest on 51 minutes at the Etihad Stadium.
Now, the former Dundee United man will be hoping to break into Rodgers’ side again, and the Celtic boss offered his thoughts on the 26-year-old’s performance, telling the Daily Mail that he was disappointed that Mackay-Steven didn’t take his chance, but he impressed with his speed and aggression.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers acknowledges fans
Rodgers admitted that Mackay-Steven – who joined Celtic in February 2015 – has been unfortunate with injuries, and felt that Tuesday night’s clash was the right time to bring him back into the side.
“I’m disappointed Gary didn’t score,” said Rodgers. “But I like how he breaks the line with speed and aggression. He’s been unfortunate he’s been out injured. I felt this was a nice time to bring him in,” he added.
