Brendan Rodgers hails Celtic’s Callum McGregor after friendly brace.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told The Scottish Sun that Callum McGregor is perhaps the most underrated player that he has ever laid eyes on.
The 25-year-old attacker scored twice as Celtic warmed up for Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier in Armenia with a 7-0 demolition of Shamrock Rovers in Dublin.
McGregor, who only has three caps for Scotland, has been one of the Hoops’ best players since Rodgers took the reins in Glasgow a little over two years ago.
Since then, the long-serving Bhoys ace has managed 19 goals in all competitions under the Northern Irishman, who described McGregor as a “super player” when speaking to The Scottish Sun.
“Callum must be one of the most underrated players I’ve ever known with his ability to keep the ball but also to break the lines and score.
“With his first goal you see his speed to get in then the finish. Then there was desire off Moussa’s strike, which might have gone wide, to slide in and get his second goal.
“He is a super player and a talented player who can play in many positions.”
McGregor might have been underrated once upon a time, but if reports from down South are accurate then his talents are being fully recognised in English football.
The print edition of The Sun [06/05/2018, page 65] reported a couple of months ago that Premier League duo Bournemouth and Watford were weighing up a £10 million swoop for him.
There has been very little other speculation about the man himself or the price-tag since, but if a top-flight English side is willing to part with that sort of money to sign McGregor then few can argue he doesn’t get the credit that he deserves.
