The Celtic midfielder has really impressed in recent weeks, whilst playing out of position.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers spoke to reporters ahead of his side’s vital Europa League clash with RB Leipzig at Parkhead tonight, and raved about the quality of Callum McGregor, highlighting how the 25-year-old has adapted to playing the deep-lying midfield role, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.
The Scotland international has been deputising for Hoops skipper Scott Brown for the past three weeks, and has really impressed, dictating the tempo of the game from the base of Celtic’s midfield.
The Glasgow giants will certainly need McGregor’s creative guile and nouse against the Bundesliga outfit tonight, and if he performs to the very best of his ability, Rodgers’ men have every chance of beating the Germans.
The Celtic boss spoke to reporters yesterday ahead of tonight’s hugely important game, and offered high words of praise for McGregor, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times:
“If you ever want to find out what type a team is, look at the holding midfielder. You have to be able to press and do the dirty work. Callum does that well. He does the footballing aspect naturally but why he is also in there is that tactically he can read the game so well. You don’t put him in there just because he can play. He doesn’t need to be jumping in with two feet. He can intercept, he can block, and importantly he’s comfortable and happy to have the ball. Recently you’ve seen the quality he plays the game with. The beauty of what he does is when he takes it his touch normally allows you to go forward.”
