Celtic parted ways with boss Neil Lennon on Wednesday, as he tendered his resignation following a tough season.
The Bhoys were hoping for a dream campaign in which they would win a tenth league title in a row, but the season has been a nightmare.
Rangers are already on the verge of winning the title, whilst Celtic have been dismal in European action too, all of which has contributed to Lennon’s exit.
Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Ross County proved to be the end for Lennon, as he resigned on Wednesday morning, with John Kennedy now in interim charge.
The search for a permanent manager is now on, and whilst it’s unclear just who will be targeted, a new boss won’t be the only appointment at Parkhead.
Celtic are also looking for a director of football, with Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin and Huddersfield Town’s David Webb believed to be targets.
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers – who excelled in charge of the Bhoys – has now given his view, telling The Scottish Sun that a director of football is vital for Celtic.
Rodgers feels such a move is ‘absolutely critical’, and is ‘pretty sure’ that the Bhoys will be plotting such a move now, predicting an appointment amid those links to Harkin and Webb.

“In the modern game, to have a director of football, especially at a club like Celtic, I think it’s absolutely critical to have that,” said Rodgers. “The manager has to be able to bring in the players he wants to. He’s accountable for the football results on the pitch, so he has to have that say and that accountability bringing in the players.”
“If the manager can work alongside someone like a sporting director then that will aid the football department. I’m pretty sure that would be something Celtic are looking at as the way forward for a club of their size and stature,” he added.
This is quite the U-turn from Rodgers, who told The Scottish Sun four years ago that he didn’t think Scottish clubs needed a director of football – yet is now urging Celtic to make such a move.
