Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers praises Ryan Christie.

Ryan Christie of Celtic walks on the pitch prior to the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic’s official website why he was so impressed with Ryan Christie’s performance against St Johnstone.

Christie played all 90 minutes in a 2-0 away win for Celtic.

Rodgers said he was encouraged by the way Christie played through after suffering a knock during the game.

He said: “Ryan Christie got a bang on the ribs and could hardly breathe, and unfortunately for him he was on my side, so I kept shouting at him to keep going.

“I thought it was a really good demonstration of our persistence and quality in the game today, and to play so well against a team that are very difficult to play is great.”

Christie has been a key player for Celtic this season, stepping up when his future at the club was in question.

His efforts yesterday clearly went appreciated by his manager in a moment where Celtic had to dig in.

Celtic had to see out the final minutes of the game with nine men after Kristoffer Ajer was sent off and James Forrest picked up an injury after all three substitutes had been used.

Forrest and loanee Timothy Weah scored the goals, to maintain Celtic’s six point lead at the top of the table.
