Celtic boss was happy with how the youngster played.
Celtic were on the wrong end of a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain last night.
The Scottish champions were humbled at home by the French side but there was one Celtic player who Brendan Rodgers feels really impressed him.
Rodgers threw in teenage full-back Anthony Ralston and while he had a difficult evening, Rodgers felt the youngster coped well.
He told Celtic’s official website: “Overall, as an 18 year-old, I thought he was excellent.
“In fairness it was a difficult start for him. Just before Neymar scored we had the ball and he was on his way up the pitch, but we concede the ball cheaply and with his pace he breaks away.
“But, overall, I thought he stood up to it, made some great blocks and the overall experience he will get from that will be huge.
“He played his first UEFA Champions League game against one of the best players in the world and I thought he coped very well with it. I was very pleased for him and that will stand him in good stead going forward.”
It was Ralston’s first ever Champions League match, and he will hope that his next game in the competition is more successful.
The young defender has made great strides this season and there was no shame on his part for PSG’s dominance up against Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
As his manager points out, Ralston may go on to be a better and wiser player for the loss – after all, it is not an experience he is used to at Celtic, and a little humbling can go a long way.
