Patrick Roberts claimed an assist in Celtic’s draw with Astana last night.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has hailed the performance of Patrick Roberts against Astana.
Celtic drew 1-1 with Astana in the first leg of their Champions League qualification tie yesterday.
The Bhoys had struggled to impose themselves on the match for the first hour, but Roberts’ endeavour created his side’s goal.
The Manchester City loanee harried a defender into a mistake, before passing the ball into Leigh Griffiths, who finished with aplomb.
Griffiths’ strike was a hugely important to Celtic, as it gave them an away goal in the tie.
And Rodgers said: “I thought Patrick Roberts was outstanding. He showed his technique. Collectively that mentality was the most pleasing and there were elements of our game where we had control in the second half.”
When Celtic fell behind early on there were fears that the tie could slip out of their grasp. However, the Bhoys stood firm and Griffiths’ goal was reward for their resilience.
Rodgers’ side now appear the favourites to progress, with the second leg of the tie due to take place at Parkhead on August 3rd.
