Odsonne Edouard scored a hat-trick for Celtic in Brendan Rodgers’ side’s recent match against Motherwell.

Celtic's Northern Irish manager Brendan Rodgers (L) speaks with Celtic's French midfielder Odsonne Edouard (R) at the start of a training session at their Lennoxtown facility, north of...

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told the Scotsman that he believes Odsonne Edouard has qualities which make him a combination of both Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths.

Edouard joined Celtic on loan from PSG during the summer transfer window, but made a slow start at Parkhead.

The French forward was third choice at Celtic over the early part of the campaign, but he scored a hat-trick recently against Motherwell.

Edouard now seems to have moved above Leigh Griffiths in the pecking order for the Bhoys.

And Rodgers believes that the 19-year-old forward has qualities which both Griffiths and Dembele possess.

“Leigh is a fantastic young striker for us and what I have now is three strikers who can contribute, depending on what type of game I need us to play. Moussa and Leigh have their qualities and Odsonne is a combination of both and I thought he did well against Hibs on Sunday,” Rodgers said.

“I’m picking what I think is the best team. Odsonne is coming off a hat-trick against Motherwell recently, where he was brilliant, and he performed well when he came on against Anderlecht in the Champions League. It’s about picking players who are in a good moment and it’s a long season.”

Moussa Dembele celebrates his 2nd goal (Celtic's 4th) during the Betfred Cup Semi-Final at Hampden Park on October 21, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Griffiths’s future at Celtic has now come into sharp focus, ahead of the January transfer window.

The Scottish international’s slip down the selection order at Parkhead has led to suggestions that he could depart in January.

Celtic’s next match comes against Hamilton later this evening, when Edouard could be given the nod to start again.
