Leicester City have improved massively since the appointment of Brendan Rodgers but could they break into the top six of the Premier League?

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers told the Daily Mail that his side will not get carried away after an incredible start to the season.

The foxes ran riot against a 10-man Newcastle United side on Sunday. Leicester scored five thanks to a brace from Jamie Vardy and goals from Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi and an own goal by Paul Dummett. Rodgers’ side are currently third in the league, just two points behind defending champions Manchester City.

Their incredible start to the season has increased the hype around the club, so much so that people are suggesting that they will break into the top six. Rodgers was asked about the suggestions and the former Celtic boss was quick to play it down.

He said: “t’s still very early, we’re not getting carried away, that’s for sure.

“The top six have been there for a number of years. The numbers show that they actually in the last few years have grown away from those teams below.

“For us, we’re in a process of getting better and improving and (the win over Newcastle) was a good measure of where we’re at from when we last played them. A few months on, the players have shown really good progress.”

Since Rodgers’ appointment as Leicester City’s manager, only Liverpool and Manchester City have earned more points than the Foxes. The former Liverpool boss has won 11 out his 19 games in the Premier League, losing just four times so far.

That is an incredible record and if that is to continue, Leicester have a serious shout for a place in the top six. However, Rodgers’ biggest test is ahead of him next week when he returns to Anfield to take on Liverpool, a side who he managed for more than three years.

The Reds have a 100% record in the Premier League so far this season and taking points off them will not be easy, especially in their own backyard. However, Rodgers will know exactly how the atmosphere will be and if he can halt Liverpool’s momentum, it will be a humongous confidence boost for his side to achieve great things this season.
